tpayne 001 📑 after the mission

A resounding success (if a bit of a nail-biter) from our agents on the ground in Finland tonight — the node has been deactivated. Now forgive me for jumping straight into business. If I'd had a single moment of free time I would've organized a ticker tape parade for you all, but as it is celebrations will have to wait.

The Veil Taper Protocols are almost ridiculously effective. We're seeing excellent levels of mental stabilization in the population. The only observed side effect thus far is some short-term memory loss. This is a landmark shift in the paradigm of our efforts against the Architects.

Although there's still some polishing to be done, I think we're ready to begin to set our sights on grander goals. And I'd like to think very big indeed. It'll be easy enough to evacuate a couple thousand people to our existing strongholds, but eventually we'll need to deal with a large city — New York or London, for example. I think we should begin planning for this sort of mission immediately even if it may be a ways off yet for us practically speaking.

On a less serious note I'd also like to discuss Bishop's choice of theme song. Not that I have anything against Rage Against the Machine, of course, but I see a lot of room to play in the aesthetic space. Maybe The Runaways next time?

I'd prefer better odds.

So would I, but experimenting on actual people is frowned upon. 'Ethical issues.'

Do 'ethical issues' fall under 'limitations'?

Is it just me or did the cold shoulder thaw faster than usual?

I can neither confirm nor deny.

[Philip]
We can chalk it up to a good night.

Drip? Rip? Phad?

We're lucky there weren't any fatalities. The pilots could have been more careful.

It was reckless to keep targeting after the call was made to pull back. Doss' ego got in the way and the results could have been catastrophic.

We could have taken down those drones.

At risk to yourselves, yes. It wasn't necessary.

Every one of those things shot out of the sky increases the safety margin of the evacuation.

They're calculated. I want us all to get out of this alive, but no risk, no reward.
