I'd like to take a moment and pick up the thread of Taryn's post the other day regarding setting our sights on grander ideals: namely, the resources needed for the aftermath of node destruction or deactivation near the bigger Pres cities. Resettlement's only part of the equation, but it's crucial in the aftermath of effectively ripping the carpet out from under their feet. A lot of us have been where they are. The benefit of a solid foundation after a traumatic experience can't be understated.

After having been to all three of our strongholds, these are Resettlement's top contenders for priority resources:

• Space. Simply put, right now we don't have the space between all three strongholds to house the displaced until they're ready to be assimilated into one of our cities or a Pres city. Somewhere like NYC alone has 8 million people. Our biggest stronghold is in Russia; it can hold a maximum of 1000 people, not including our operatives. The Kamchatka Peninsula has a ton of abandoned Cold War-era bunkers. I'm betting on us to be able to secure another one and retrofit it to our needs.
  
  
• Medicine and medical supplies. When I touched base with the Mjóifjörður stronghold this morning, they mentioned at least 70% of their new displaced need medical care unrelated to the effects of the node destruction. Meds for chronic conditions, anti-inflammatories and antiseptics, Insulin, adrenaline, puffers. Leadership said most of who brought their meds with them will see it run out by the end of the month. Our Kamchatka stronghold is holding up with the medical needs for the moment, but their medical facilities could be improved with more beds and overall supplies. An MRI machine would be huge.

I'm feeling good about how if we can continue with the success we saw at Lammu, especially with that huge reduction in casualties, then we can see expansion in other operations. You've/we've got this. What are all ya'lls thoughts on the above?

Unrelated to the above, I had two people back out of their tattoo appointments next Saturday. If you had a concrete idea or even a concept of an idea, let me know and I can pencil you in. We can workshop whatever you want.

I don't think it is. We need more hands to help the many and all that.

I think we have a big task ahead of us and it's going to take a lot of work to continue the successes, but we've started seeing improvement and that's a big step.

You use the word "contenders," but when we expand operations, we will be talking about people who are not accustomed to having to prioritize between housing and medical care. Resource scarcity as a concept will be alien to young people. Unless I'm misunderstanding you, each increase to housing capacity on the Kamchatka Peninsula should be matched with equal capacity for the provision of at least first-line medical care. So, my thoughts are we should aim for strictly equal prioritization.

No, you've got it, and I don't disagree. We gotta match those efforts, though right now Kamchatka's still got people suffering from neural symptoms. It's a balancing game.

They're big tasks, but I know we're up to them. Rome wasn't built in a day, etc.

One more consideration that may not be obvious from the logistics side: expansion without expanded screening capacity is a major liability. Right now, we do not have the infrastructure to reliably vet populations this large. And if we are incapable of identifying potential infiltrators within the newly unVeiled, we leave ourselves vulnerable to the Architects' agents.

We are, of course, working to increase our capabilities, but we must be realistic about the limits of what can be done safely. Moving from a handful to the millions is not a transition we can afford to rush or to get wrong.

As for your other point: I've decided I'm not being baited today.

No, I agree with you on that. Like I said, Resettlement's just one part of a long equation.

For what it’s worth, I think MRI machines aren’t as hard to move as you might think despite the giant magnet of it all. When I was a kid, my mother needed to scan volunteers for her study and she’d bring me with her on weekends and I remember the scanners available to her were housed in reinforced trailers. So: mobile.

Guess you just need to find some. Or one!

Kamchatka isn't a terrible idea. What would you need to reclaim it?

[jaxsons]

Our agents on the ground would need to be mobilized pretty cohesively. The other abandoned bunkers in the area shouldn't be monitored that far out, but it's hard to know how far a drone might stray. There'd need to be some recon, make sure the area's clear, before they can sweep a bunker. That's the first step.
